Application Requirements

To be considered for admission to the MHA@GW program, applicants should have a strong academic background and hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or an international institution that is accredited by the country’s ministry of education or comparable governmental agency.

No GRE scores are required. MHA@GW seeks experienced candidates with a history of professional and scholastic excellence who are ready to become leaders in the health care field.

Applicants must also have at least two years of full-time health sector experience or three years of full-time experience in any industry. All students must currently be employed in the health sector field, and those students with less than two years of experience must pass an online examination prior to enrolling in Module 1.

If your employment in the health care field has been recently impacted, you may still be eligible for the program. Please contact your Admissions Counselor for more information.

  • A faculty member from a course taken within the past five years who can speak to your ability to succeed in the MHA@GW program

English Language Proficiency

All applicants to the George Washington University must demonstrate excellent English language skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Graduate applicants who have not earned (or will not earn before matriculation) a postsecondary degree from a U.S. institution are required to submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) scores to be considered for admission. Scores may not be more than two years old.

The MHA@GW Educational Testing Service (ETS) school code for TOEFL is 3441.

Minimum Score Requirements

  • TOEFL: 100 on the Internet exam (iBT)
  • IELTS: 7.0 overall with no individual score below 6.0. If applicants provide their TRF number, the Office of Admissions & Enrollment can verify IELTS results.

Exceptions are granted to applicants who earned (or will earn before matriculation) a postsecondary degree from an institution in a country that qualifies for the English language exam exemption. If you are unsure whether you qualify for an exemption, please e-mail an admissions counselor.

Disclaimer: The George Washington University reserves the right to request proof of English proficiency from any applicant.

Official Transcripts

Mail official, sealed transcripts from each academic institution you have attended, including community college, to:

The George Washington University
Application Processing Center
PO Box 30096 007-001
College Station, TX 77842

Many schools issue transcripts electronically, either through their own web services or through vendors. If this option is available through the institutions you attended, please specify that your transcript(s) be sent via e-mail to application services or select MHA@GW – Online Program if listed as an option through a vendor. This will expedite the delivery of your transcript(s) and the completion of your application.

If you earned credits at an international institution outside of a study-abroad program, you will need to have your coursework evaluated by World Education Services (WES).

Please note: To be considered an official transcript, the transcript must be sent directly from your institution(s) or through an electronic transcript vendor retained by that institution. Transcripts submitted by enrolled or prospective students are considered unofficial documents, even if they are in a sealed envelope provided to you by the issuing university.
