The Graduate Student Handbook applies to all graduate students of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University. The Handbook describes the policies, procedures, and resources that are most important for students. However, the University’s Bulletin serves as a more complete source of information. As a student, you should use the handbook in tandem with the University’s Bulletin.
The University reserves the right to change courses, programs, and fees, or to make other changes deemed necessary or desirable, giving advance notice of these changes when possible.
Below are two links to important forms and services offered by the Milken Institute SPH. Please contact Student Support or your advisor as references for the appropriate form or service for your particular situation.
Effective Fall 2021, courses dropped prior to the start of the term (before the first day of classes) will have 100% of the tuition charges cancelled. Courses dropped beginning the first day of classes are subject to the university refund schedule, which governs the prorated cancellation of semester tuition charges in cases of program adjustment or withdrawal.
A course dropped during the first week of classes will not appear on the student’s transcript. A course dropped after the first week but before the end of the seventh week will be assigned a notation of W (Authorized Withdrawal).
The deadline for dropping a course without academic penalty is the end of the seventh week of classes. After the end of the seventh week of classes, dropping a course without academic penalty is only possible after the student presents a petition to the dean and receives written permission.
All charges for courses from which the student withdraws are subject to the MPH@GW refund policy. Failure to withdraw by these procedures can result in an extended financial obligation and the recording of a grade of F (Failure) or a notation of Z (Unauthorized Withdrawal).
